Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
Regular visitors to these pages will know that on my 'to do' list, prior to leaving British shores, was visiting Southend. I wasn't keen on the Jellied Eels, but did enjoy a couple of pints of decent beer and a very good fish and chip dinner there. I do like to be beside the seaside.
I was reminded of that day today, while strolling along the promenade in Narbonne. The weather here today, although a little windy (as Narbonne usually is) was warmer and sunnier than Southend back in early September.
No jellied eels here, so I enjoyed moules mariniere for lunch, and was forced to subsitute the beer with a glass or two of rose wine. In the absence of a pier of any description, a walk along the two mile promenade just had to suffice to let the lunch settle, prior to returning to the hotel - from whose balcony this image was taken earlier this evening, just as the sun was about down.
The pinkish haze around the far promenade lights is actually the outline of the Pyrenees mountains. A more expensive camera may have given me the detail I really wanted. No camera in the world, though, could fully record the total quiet loveliness of this seaside resort out of season but still beautifully warm by any British standards.
We have decided to stay for the remainder of the week, using the hotel as a base to visit friends in Lunel and business contacts in the area as well as spending some time looking at the available housing here.
Oh! I do like to be beside the seaside.
